12/1 Dragon sets the Pulse racing

French raider Dragon Pulse looks cracking each-way value at 12/1 in the St James’ Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot (3.45).

The son of Kyllachy was a very useful sort as a juvenile, winning the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh where he beat subsequent Dewhurst winner Parish Hall by 1 3/4 lengths.

He went on to finish a 1/2 length second to Power in the Group 1 National Stakes on his final start for Jessica Harrington, where he was given plenty to do and was closing all the way to the line.

The colt was then bought and moved to the stable of Mikel Delzangles and showed he had trained on when winning the Group 3 Prix De Fontainebleau at Lonchamp on his reappearance.

He picked up really well from off the pace and quickened nicely before running on strongly to beat Dabirism by a short-head, and his latest run when only 9th of 12 (beaten just 2 1/2 lengths) to Lucayan in the Poule D’Essie Du Poulains is easily excused as it was a messy race where nothing went his way.

To me he looks to have plenty going for him in this and given that he is very closely matched with Power on their juvenile form I don’t think that he should be nearly four times the odds of that rival.

He also has the beating of Most Improved on a line through Parish Hall, yet is 4pts bigger in the betting.

It’s also interesting that connections have booked Fran Berry to ride this afternoon, as he partnered him in three of his four outings as a two-year-old.

In what looks a wide open race I can see him running a huge race, and at the odds on offer he looks overpriced form a horse with solid form claims.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Dragon Pulse (12/1 Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
