12/1 Savanna Spring can strike on handicap debut

Savanna Spring makes her eagerly awaited handicap debut in the 5.55 at Thirsk today and looks cracking value at 12/1.

Tim Jarvis’ filly has been well held in three maiden runs, but shaped with promise on the first two occasions at Docaster and York when not knocked about.

She particularly caught the eye in the latter when staying on nicely to finish a never nearer eighth of 15 to Mayfield Boy in a race which has thrown up several subsequent winners.

They include Bold Captain who finished 3 lengths in front of the selection and is now rated 76, and Penhill who finsihed 2 lengths behind Savanna Spring in 12th and has gone on to score three times and finished an excellent sixth in the Melrose at York last time out off a mark rating of 89.

That is decent form and makes Savanna Spring look potentially well-treated off an opening mark of just 61.

The daughter of Bushranger looks the type who could improve significantly now tackling handicaps, and connections have certainly found her a weak class 5 contest in which to make her debut in that sphere.

She wouldn’t have to improve much on her York run to be a major player in this, and at the odds on offer looks looks well worth an each-way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Savanna Spring (12/1 Sky Bet – BOG)
