Tarikhi shaped really well on his belated seasonal reappearance and makes plenty of appeal at 12/1 in today’s John Smith’s Cup at York (2.55).

Saeed Bin Suroor’s gelding is lightly raced and ran a stormer on just his fourth start whene finishing a neck second of 27 to Roca Tuma in the Britrannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last year off a mark of 89.

He went on to finish a fair third to Maputo in a 1m 2f contest at Newmarket off his current mark of 95, before disappointing when 9th of 13 at Ascot on his fional start of 2013.

That race may have come too soon after his earlier exploits, and the son of Bernardini was then off the track for 322 days before finishing an eye-catching fith of 13 to Spirit Of The Law over 1m 1f at this venue last month.

Tarikhi was slowly away that day and took a keen hold in the early stages before stayting on nicely to be gaining at the finish and beaten just 2 lengths.

It was a highly promising effort which should have put him spot on for this, and with the prospect of futher improvement to come and Kieren Fallon in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Tarikhi (12/1 bet365, Ladbrokes – BOG)
