13/2 Orion Express a Newton Abbot nugget

The well-treated Orion Express will relish the drying ground at Newton Abbot and looks good value at 13/2 in the 5.20 there today.

Sue Gardner’s gelding has not won since scoring at Taunton back in November 2011, but that win came off a mark of 99 and he now gets into this off 95.

He loved the quick ground that day and won going away by 7 lengths from No Woman No Cry, and although his form last year was very patchy he did run a couple of good races which suggest he retains enough ability to win from his current mark when conditions are in his favour.

The 12-year-old ran a creditable race off a rating of 100 when 5th of 13 to Ocean du Moulin at Uttoxeter, and looked to be coming back to his best three starts back  when an excellent second of 16 to Tyhpon De Guye at Taunton on good ground.

He was put up 5lb for that effort and failed to build on it in his next two starts, but the ground was not in his favour in either of those runs and he shaped far better last time out when third of 11 to stablemate Call Me Sir over course and distance.

That run suggested his winning turn was not far away, and if he can build on that now that he gets the quick ground that he relishes he has every chance at the weights of getting back into the winners’ enclosure.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Orion Express (13/2 BetVictor – BOG)
