Marten could be on a handy mark on chase debut in the 2.35 at Market Rasen today so looks worth a wager at 14/1.
Ben Pauling’s six-year-old was a useful bumper performer and looked a smart prospect when making a winning debut over hurdles at Southwell 12 months ago.
He made all and only had to be ridden out to come clear and easily beat Sky Pirate by 16 lengths.
The runner-up has won since and run some solid races in defeat to now be rated 134 over both hurdles and fences.
Marten failed to build on that promising start in his next two outings, finishing a well beaten sicth at Bangor when send off odds-on before being pulled-up at Kempton back in February.
However, he has since had wind surgery and now makes his debut over the larger obstacles off a mark of 120.
Judged on his success over Sky Pirate that looks exploitable if the wind op has done the trick.
His win over hurdles also came after a 265 day break so another lengthy absence may not be an issue and first time up could be the right time to catch him.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Marten (14/1 Sky Bet, William Hill – BOG)
