14/1 Awake My Soul ready to call the tune

Awake My Soul is back down to a workable mark and makes plenty of appeal at 14/1 in the 1.45 at York today now dropped back in trip.

David O’Meara’s charge was in terrific form in the early part of last season,  winning his maiden in good style at Beverley before landing two handicaps in his next three starts.

He then ran very well to finish third to Nabucco in a dcent class 2 handicap at Newmarket before finishing a cracking fourth of 19 to Danchai in the John Smith’s Cup over course and distance off a mark of 93.

The five-year-old was beaten just 2 1/4 lengths in the latter, having been forced to make his move out wide before dbeing unable to find any extra close home.

He got put up 3lb for that effort, and didn’t tun too badly off his revised mark (96) when 8th of 12 to Winterlude at Ascot.

The son of Teofilo then wasn’t at his best in his next two starts but ran well on his penultimate outing when third at Nottingham and was far from disgraced on his final start last season when 8th of 23 to Conduct in the November Handicap at Doncaster after being on the go for a long time.

He now gets into this contest off 91, having shaped as if coming back to form last time out at Ripon when fourth of 9 to Battalion over 1m 4f.

Awake My Soul now drops back down to 1m 2f, over which he has registered two of his three career success, and looks to have been brought along with this meeting in mind.

He also ran well last year to be third of 12 to today’s favourite Rye House over course and distance on soft ground, and now meets that rival on 7lb better terms for a 3 1/2 lengths beating.

That suggests there shoiuldn’t be much between them, yet Awake My Soul can be backed at three times the odds of that rival.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Awake My Soul (14/1 Boylesports – BOG)
