Trainer Sophie Leech has a 40% strike rate with her runners at Ffos Las in the past 12 months and Kapricorne makes plenty of appeal at 14/1 in the 5.00 there today from what looks a handy mark.
The lightly-raced gelding is yet to get his head in front but ran there solid races to make the frame three times back in the spring and has shown enough to suggest he can win a race of this nature.
The last of those runs canme at this venue over 2m 4f where Kapricorne stayed on from well off the pace to finish a never nearer 7 1/4 lengths third of 7 to Committment off today’s mark of 78.
The step up to 3m should suit judged on that run, and prior to that he had run really well over it to finish a staying on third of 9 to Earcomesthedream at Towcester.
Although eventually well beaten when last seen in action at Cartmel, Kepricorne didn’t shape as bad at the final result suggests and has since been given a break to freshen up.
That run also came on quick ground, and the return to an easier surface looks sure to suit.
Kapricorne also has the services of Killian Moore in the saddle who takes another 3lb off his back, and in what is a very weak looking class 5 contest he looks weighted to go well on the pick of his form and remains open to further improvement.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Kapricorne (14/1 Coral – BOG)
