14/1 Lightning weighted to strike in Spring Mile

Sweet Lightning is on a handy mark at present and looks decent value at 14/1 in the Spring Mile at Newbury today (3.30) to take advantage following an excellent effort last time out.

The gelding has some smart form to his name when trained in Ireland by Johnny Murtagh, winnning on his seasonal reapperance at the Curragh in the Irish Lincolnshire last year off a mark of 100 before running well in Listed/Group company.

He got beat 5 3/4 lengths by Declaration Of War when 5th of 6 at Leopradstown and put in an excellent effort when a 1 length third of 5 in a Group 3 contest at the same track off an official rating of 112.

Now in the care of David O’Meara, he gets into this off just 98 having ran his best race yet for his new handler when a fine fourth of 17 to Ocean Tempest in the Lincoln at Doncaster two weeks ago.

The nine-year-old stayed on well from off the pace to be nearest at the finish and beaten just over 2 lengths, and gets into this off the same handicap mark.

That gives him every chance at the weights and in a race which should be run to suit he looks sure to go well in the hands of Daniel Tudhope.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Sweet Lightning (14/1 Sky Bet – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5)
