Lilac Lace looks worth another chance at 14/1 to cash-in on her falling mark in the 3.15 at Thirsk today.
Tim Easterby’s filly is a tough sort who showed progressive form last year when bagging four handicaps, including one over course and distance.
The last of those wins came in a class 3 contest on testing ground at Newbury where she made all and ran on strongly to beat Jubilante by 2 1/2 lengths off a mark of 81.
The daughter of Captain Marvelous got put up 5lb for that win to 86, and didn’t run too badly off it on her seasonal reappearance at Thirsk when 9th of 15 to Farlow.
Lilac Lace was then well beaten in her next four starts, but often ran better than the bare result indicates and bounced right back to form on her peumtilmate outing when third of 11 to We’ll Deal Again over 6f at this venue.
After being held-up at the rear, she made good headway to have every chance inside the final furlong before being unable to find any extra close home to be beaten just 2 lengths.
Lilca Lace then failed to back up that run last time out when heavily-backed and finishing just 9th of 15 to Fieldgunner Kirkup at Redcar, but has since been dropped a further 1lb to 72.
That is 9lb lower than when last successful, and Lilac Lace also has the assistance of Rachel Richardson in the saddle who takes another 7lb off her back and is terrific value for her claim.
