Secret Witness is back down to a workable mark and looks decent each-way value at 14/1 in the 8.20 at Newmarket this evening.
Ron Harris’ charge is a tough sort who is on a long losing run having not scored since landing a 6f contest at York back in May 2012 off a 94.
However, the eight-year-old has run a number of solid races to be placed in ultra competitive handicaps and having been rated as high as 106 now runs off just 92.
That is 2lb lower than when last successful and the same as when Secret Witness ran a cracker to finish a 1/4 length third of 18 to Top Boy in a class 2 contest at York back in May.
He looked the likely winner until getting collared close home that day, and the handicapper put him up 3lb to a mark of 95.
That resukted in two below par efforts in his next to runs, but having been dropped a few punds as a result Secret Witness then ran much better last time out when third to Justineo at Doncaster in a six runner affair.
If he can build on that then he is not badly treated on the pick of his form, especially on his third at York in May in a higher grade, and the bigger field and stronger pace in this class 3 contest is sure to suit.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Secret Witness (14/1 William Hill – BOG)
