16/1 Squouateur looks tasty in Troytown

Squouateur makes plenty of each-way appeal at 16/1 in the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan today (2.30).

Gordon Elliott’s seven-year-old developed into a smart hurdler in 2015/16 when winning three of his seven starts.

He also ran well when sent off the heavily-backed 9/4 favourite and finishing a staying on seventh of 24 to Ibis De Rheu in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival g off a mark of 141.

Although Squouateur is yet to get his head in front in 12 starts over fences he has often shaped far better than the bare results.

They include when staying on late to fionish a never nearer 8 1/4 third of 28 to Annibale Fly in last year’s Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown off a makr of 122.

Squouateur also ran very well when a 5 1/2 length third of 20 to Missed Approach in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival back in March off 135. Those efforts suggest that his current mark of 138 is exploitable.

His hold-up run style does mean that thinhgs have to drop right, but Barry Geraghty has a 50 per cent strike rate on him (two wins and a place from four starts) and is once again in the saddle.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Squouateur (16/1 Paddy Power – BOG, 6 places)
