16/1 Silver Sycamore worth a wager at Windsor

Silver Sycamore is a very interesting runner in the 2.45 at Windsor and looks worth chancing at 16/1 on her debut for David Lanigan.

The filly showed some decent form in maidens last year in Ireland when trained by Jessica Harrington and could be potentially well treated off an opening British mark of 90.

The daughter of Exchange Rate was well supported on her debut at Leopardstown when an eye-catching third to Yellow Rosebud, who went on to finish runner-up to Maybe in a Group 2 at the Curragh and landed the Group 3 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown this season to be officially rated 108.

The fourth home in that contest was Coolnagree and that horse has gone on win twice, including when defeating subsequent Irish 1000 Guineas runner-up and Jersey Stakes winner Ishvana in a handicap at the Curragh.

The selection then ran well to be fourth in her next two tart in races at Galway and Leopardstown that have thrown up plenty of subsequent winners before opening her account in good style when making all to beat Oh So Lucy by 3 lengths at Leopardstown.

She was then not seen at her best on the all-weather surface at Dundalk and was off the track for 173 days before making her seasonal reappearance at Leopardstown where she ran better than her final finishing position of 5th of 6 to Light Heavy indicates.

The three-year-old raced keenly and disputed the lead until taking up the running entering the straight and weakened after being headed at the furlong pole to be beaten just over 6 length.

However the winner is a really useful sort who went on to win his next two starts in group company before finishing a creditable third in yesterday’s Irish Derby behind Camelot.

I think that Silver Sycamore has shown enough at the right level to suggest she can be competitive in this, and if her shrewd handler has got her ready to roll at the first time of asking then 16/1 is too big a price.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Silver Sycamore (16/1 bet365, Betfred, Paddy Power – BOG)
