16/1 Vasco worth a wager at Wetherby

Vasco D’ycy disappointed last time out but looks worth another chance at 16/1 in the 3.20 at Wetherby today to exploit what could be a lenient handicap mark.

Sarah Humphrey’s gelding looked a decent prospect when landing an 8-runner juvenile contest on soft ground at Newbury back in November 2012, where he made all and stayed on strongly to beat Pistol by 3 lengths.

He had Saphir Du Rheu a further 6 lengtsb back in third, and that was has developed into a top class hurdler who is now rated 165.

The selection was then highly tried after that success, finishing sixth in the Grade 1 Future Champions’ Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow when sent off just 7/1 before being pulled up behind Ubak in a Grade 2 contest at Aintree when officially rated 133.

The five-year-old was then off the track for 210 before making his handicap debut off a mark of 126 in a class 3 contest at Wetherby in November.

He led two from home until weakening before the last to finish a 30 length fourth of 9 to leading World Hurdle hope More Of That, and ran far better than the distance he was beaten indicates.

He then finsihed last to that rival in a very competitive class 2 contest at Haydock, before running to free when fourth to Maller Tree in a class 3 affair at Fakenham.

The son of Equeery was then well backed last time out at Sedgefield, but after leading and seemingly travelling well weakend after getting headed three out to finish a well-beatren third to Forward Flight.

The way he ran suggested that he may had needed the runm his first for 60 days, and the handicapper has since dropped him a further 3lb to a mark of 112.

That makes him look very well-weighted on the pick of his form, and with Jack Quinlan in the saddle taking another 3lb off his back he is simply too well-treated to ignore at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Vasco D’ycy (16/1 Stan James – BOG)
