Brancaster shaped quite nicely last time out and is now back down to his last winning mark, so at 20/1 looks massively overpriced and worth an each-way punt in the 4.50 at Salisbury today.

This David Elsworth trained gelding is a lightly raced five-year-old who progressed throughout last season.

After openong his account in an amateur rider’s contest at Haydock he went on to follow-up off the same venue over 1m 4f off 7lb higher when only having to be driven out to score by 1/2 a length off a rating of 67.

Brancaster has had just two runs this season and was clearly amiss on the first of those when tailed-off at Newbury,

However following a break he ran much better over 1m 4f here last time out when a 5 1/4 length sixth of 13 to Loving Your Work when making an effort on the outside two from home before weakening inside the last.

It was step back in the right dircetion and Brancaster looks sure to come on for that outing.

He also finished just 4 3/4 lengths behind the fourth home Master Grey, who went into the race with four runs under his belt, and now meets that rival on 1lb better terms.

I don’t think that there is much between the pair and Brancaster is now racing off 67 again yet can be backed at nearly three-times the odds of Master Grey.

The step up to 1m 6f also promises to suit.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Brancaster (20/1 Betfair, Paddy Power – BOG, paying 1/5 the odds 4 places)
