20/1 Alarazi appeals at Ascot

20/1 Alarazi too big to ignore

The big betting race of the day is The Ladbroke at Ascot (3.35) and Alarazi makes plenty of each-way apeal at 20/1.

Lucy Wadham’s gelding ran out the emphatic winner of the ultra competitive Imperial Cup at Sandown back in March where he travelled powerfully throughout before coming with a smooth run and only having to be driven out to beat Via Galilei by 2 3/4 lengths.

He now meets that rival on 6lb better terms, and on a line through Gary Moore’s charge has every chance of making the huge lumps of weight he receives from the strongly fancied top weight Brampour.

Via Galilei was beaten just 1/2 a length by Brampour when they met off level weights here in October, and although Paul Nicholl’s gelding is improving at a rate of knots he has to give 21lbs to the selection and that’s a tall order on what will be testing ground.

The ground – which is currently described as soft – will hold no fears for Alarazi and he should be spot on for this after his recent spin behind Rock On Ruby at Newbury three weeks ago.

He looked badly in need of the run that day and was not knocked about at any stage, eventually weakening badly two from home as race fitness took its toll.

To me he looks to have been trained with this race in mind, and given the form lines with Via Galilei and Brampour I can’t understand why he can backed at double the odds of that pair.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Alarazi (20/1 bet365, Boylesports, Ladbrokes – BOG)
