20/1 Captain Royale ready to rule at Pontefract

There are plenty of reasons to believe that Captain Royale is way overpriced at 20/1 and great each-way value in the 3.40 at Pontefract.

The gelding landed three sprint handicaps for Tracy Waggott last season, and has recently rejoined the stable have been with Colin Teague.

This is only his second run back for Waggott, and he has the same profile as Mission Impossible who returned to form with a bang to land a gamble at Newcastle for us under similar circumstances.

The son of Captain Rio had no realistic chance in a conditions event last time out at Hamilton, but this is his level and he was last successful off today’s mark of 72 when scoring over course and distance last October.

He ran on really well that day to beat Russian Spirit and Strike Up The Band, and there is little doubt that on that effort he is handicapped to go in again.

Indeed, he showed that he was no back number when finishing runner-up to Lucky Art three outings ago of 73 in a contest at Ripon and is now running off a 1lb lower mark.

I would expect the return to Waggott’s to bring about some improvement, as she clearly knows how to get the best out of the horse.

If that’s the case then there is every chance he can take advantage of his current mark and bounce back to form at a big price.

The 20/1 on offer this morning looks huge and I can see him going off shorter come flag fall.

At that price he represents excellent each-way value in my book.
