25/1 Gabrial the Plate punt

Angel Gabrial has shaped as if returning to form in his last two starts and looks worth an each-way wager at 25/1 in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle today (4.15).

Richard Fahey’s charge ran out the easy winner of the race in 2014 and also ran very well to finish fourth in last year’s renewal, where he had several of this afternoon’s rivals in behind.

He went on to finish a solid 3 1/2 length fifth of 16 to Nakeeta at Haydock off a mark of 104, and now meets the winner on 13lb better terms.

Angial Gabrial is now able to race in this off 1lb lower, and is running off the same mark as 12 months ago.

He also comes into the contest on the back of a decent eighth in the Chester Cup from a horrid wide draw in stall 18, and was far from disgraced last time out when third to Moonrise Landing in a Listed contest at York where he had Seamour nearly 8 1/2 lengths behind in sixth.

If building on those efforts he looks weighted to run a big race from a good draw in stall 5 and overpriced at the odds on offer compared to Nakita and Seamour.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Angel Gabrial (25/1 bet365, Betfred, BetVictor, Stan James – BOG)
