The big race of the day is the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock (3.35), and Genki makes plenty of each-way appeal at 25/1 in a wide open looking contest.
Roger Charlton’s seven-year-old has looked as good as ever this season despite his advancing years and ran a cracker last time out when finishing fourth to Moonlight Cloud in the Cloud in Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
He finished only a 1/4 of a length behind Society Rock, yet can be backed at nearly three times the odds of James Fanshawe’s charge.
The gelding also doesn’t have much to find with the joint-favourite Dream Ahead who beat him 3 lengths into sixth in the July Cup at Newmarket.
He got no luck in running that day as he was slowly into stride and denied a run at the furlong pole when going well.
However he ran on really strongly when switched to deliver a challenge, and granted better luck in running he would have finished much closer.
The selection also ran well in this last year from a poor draw in 4 when beaten just over two lengths into third by Markab when the race was run in a record time.
Has a far better draw in stall 14 this afternoon, acts on any going, and is guaranteed to get the strong pace he needs to be seen at his best.
Given that he doesn’t have a lot to find with some of the principals the 25/1 on offer looks a bit of an insult and represents good each-way value in my book.
Recommended bet: 2pts each-way Genki (25/1 bet365, Boylesports)
