Blue Surf has run some solid races at Goodwood and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 28/1 in the opener there today (1.55)
Amanda Perrett’s gelding was a progressive sort when winning three times in 2012, including over course and distance, with the the last of those successes coming in the at Newbury where he beat Borug by a neck off a mark of 93 and was value for much more than the winning margin having idled when hitting the front.
The five-year-old then looked as good as ever when fourth of 8 to Resurge on his reappearance last year over 1m 2f at Epsom where he kept on nicely to be beaten just 2 lengths off a mark of 98.
He then finished a highgly creditable 7th of 16 to Opinion in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot off the saem mark, and went on to finish a solid 4 1/4 length 8th of 16 to Viewpoint at this track.
Blue Surf also ran well to be beaten just over 3 lengths when finishing fifth of 7 to the now 115-rated Gospel Choir over 1m 4f here, and has shaped well in all four starts this term.
In the first of those he went down by just 1/2 a length to Soviet Rock at Lingfeld, and he then got badly hampered in a listed contest at Goodwood before finishing a 2 1/2 length last of four to Gatewood at this track.
The son of Excellemnt Art then ran a solid race to finish third to Miss Marjurie at Epsom where he finsihed 1/2 a length behind the runner-up Stomachion who he now meets on 2lb better terms.
That means that there shouldn’t be much between them, yet Blue Surf can be backed at nearly five times the odds of that rival.
The selection also didn’t run badly last time out behind De Rigeur over 1m 4f at Haydock (weakend late on), and the drop back down in trip today looks sure to suit.
