The gelding has not been at his best in five starts this year but his mark has fallen from 80 to 67 as a result and he is now dangerously well-treated.
He is now 7lb lower than his last success, and that came in this contest 12 months ago where he was heavily backed and ran on strongly to win going away by 2 lengtsh from Sir George.
The four-year-old will also appreciate the cut in the groiund that he gets today, and it looks significant that he now returns to this venue for the first time since his last victory over course and distance.
He has won on two of his three visits to the track and finished runner-up on the other occasion.
It clearly brings out the best in him and his shrewd handler looks to have done a great job of getting his mark down by campaigning him over 7f this season – a trip which is a bit too sharp for him these days.
The step up back to a mile looks sure to see him in a far better light, and he now looks to have everything in his favour to get back in the winners’ enclosure.
