5.15 Cheltenham Festival: Cash-in on 10/1 Cassidy

Nicky Henderson saddles five runners as he bids to win the race named in honour of his father and I like the look of Kid Cassidy at 10/1 following two eye-catching runs this season.

The gelding has often been held back by being prone to clout one hard but is a classy sort on his day and looks on a fair mark on the pick of his form.

He landed two chases in good style at the start of last season, easily beating Kumbeshwar on the latter of those at Doncaster where he stayed on strongly to win by just under 4 lengths.

The seven-year-old now meets that rival on 8lb better terms, and has nothing to fear on the book from Alan King’s charge.

That win saw him sent off the heavily backed 4/1 favourite for this contest 12 months ago but he was never travelling after a terrible mistake at the first before eventually trailing in a well beaten 12th of 21 to Bellvano off a mark of 145.

He then ran a bit better when fifth of 13 to Edgardo Sol at Aintree after again making a mistake at the first.

The son of Beneficial was then not seen in action until making his seasonal reappearance at Aintree, where he kept on well under tender handling to finish a never nearer fourth of 7 to Gus Macrae having never been put into the race at any stage.

He then put in an even more eye-catching effort last time out when fifth of 14 to Shooters Wood here, where he was held-up well off the pace before keeping on well under hands and heels to be beaten 9 1/4 lengths.

It was a run which suggested he was being primed with this race solely in mind, and having been dropped 1lb to a mark of 143 he has been given a real chance by the handicapper.

The booking of Paul carberry, who won this race for Henderson on Bellvano last year. also catches the eye as he looks the ideal partner to get the best out of him and will be suited by his patient riding style.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Kid Cassidy (10/1 Hills, Paddy Power – BOG)
