The well-treated Burano looks worth another chance at 5/1 to cash-in on his falling handicap mark in the 4.35 at Carlisle today now fitted with cheekpieces for the first time at a track which should suit.

Brian Meehan’s charge has just one career success to his name, with that victory coming in a listed race at Meydan in 2012 where he Entifaadha by a short head.

He was rated 106 after that win, and went on to run a solid race to finish a 5 3/4 length sixth of 12 to Mull Of Killough in a Group 3 contest at Newmarket.

Since then Burano has run a number of solid races to finish in the frame, including when third of 14 to Saxo Jack at Meydan back in January.

The five-year-old has also shaped far better than his finishing poisition suggest in several big field handicaps this season.

In the first of those he finished a never nearer 4 3/4 length 8th of 23 to Gabrial’s Kaka in the Spring Mile at Newbury after getting blocked at a vital stage, and that was followed by another eye-catching run at Newamrket where he dwelt at the start and got bumped two out before staying on well to finish 7th of 19 to Niceofyoutotellme.

Burano then ran better than his finishing position suggests  in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot, keeping on well from off the pace to finish 13th of 28 to Field Of Dreams without ever threatening to land a blow.

Although he has not been at his best in his last two starts, his mark has continued to fall and he now races off just 91 in what looks a very winnable class 3 contest.

The stiff uphill finish should also play to Burano’s strengths, and if the headgear has the desired effect then this would be his for the taking on the pick of his form.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Burano (5/1 Boylesports, Coral – BOG)
