Consigliere is back down below his last winning mark and at 5/2 rates the standout bet on today’s Sedgefield card (2.45).
David Pipe’s charge is a useful sort when he has conditions in his favour, as she showed when chasing home Big Fella Thanks in a class 2 contest at Wincaton on soft ground last January off a mark of 138.
He then went on to slam Rich Lord by 9 lengths next time up at Ayr on soft ground over 2m 4f off the same rating, and started this season off on a mark of 145 as a result.
The 11-year-old has failed to get competitive in four starts, but the first of those came in a listed class 1 contest at Ascot where he wasn’t disgraced in finishing 7th of 15 to Drumshambo off 145 and he now gets into this class 3 affair off 136.
That means that he is now 2lb below his last winning mark and gives him outstanding claims at the weights.
He is also now stepped up in trip to 2m 4f, the distance over which he was last successful, and has underfoot conditions to suit.
Another plus is that he has Kieron Edgar in the saddle taking another 7lb off his back and everything looks in place for him to get back to winning ways.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Consigliere (5/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
