Marju’s Quest makes his eagerly awaited handicap debut in the 3.20 at Yarmouth today and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to make it a winning one.
David Simcock’s charge showed signs of ability in three quick maiden runs last year, and left the impression that he would be a different proposition when sent handicapping when an eye-catching 5th of 9 to Drahem in a maiden over a mile here 2 weeks ago.
Held-up that day, he raced keenly in the early stages but travelled strongly for most of the contest and kept on really nicely from over a furlong out.
Although beaten 6 1/4 lengths he was never put into the contest at any stage and finished with plenty of running left in him under a very tender ride.
He went into my notebook then as one to be on when going handicapping, and he now gets into this off what could be a very lenient mark of 62.
I am convinced that he better than that and has plenty more left in the locker, and it would be no surprise to see him leave his bare form well behind and take off now that he has got a low mark to work with.
The drop back to 7f shouldn’t really inconvenience him too much given how well he travelled last time out, and with his handler in good form and Liam Jones in the saddle he rates the best bet on the card.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Marju’s Quest (6/1 bet365, BetVictor, Stan James – BOG)
