Royal Peculiar has dropped to a career-low mark and is of major interest at 6/1 now returned to the all-weather surface in the 9.00 at Wolverhampton tonight.
The five-year-old had some pretty useful form to his name when trained in his younger days by Sir Henry Cecil, when after winning his maiden on the all-weather at Lingfield he went on to finish a 1/2 length third of 16 to Franciscan in a class 3 contest at York off a mark of 88.
His form then tailed off and he joined the Mick Appleby yard, and regained winning ways on his third start for his new handler when beating Super Say by a neck on the all-weather at Lingfield back in December off a mark of 80.
He went on to finish a dcent third next time up at Wolverhampton off 82, and has since put in a decent couple of efforts on the turf without troubling the judge.
The son of Galileo ran really well when weakening late on to finish a 2 1/4 length fourth of 10 to Fennell Bay in a class 3 contest at Thirsk off 80, and then finished a creditable 5th of 17 to Warlu Way off the same rating in a class 4 contest at Carlisle.
Although he has not shown that level of form in his last four starts, his handicap mark has fallen as a result and he now gets into this off just 72 after a “quite” run at Leicester last time.
That means that he is now 8lb below his last winning mark and gives him major claims at the weights – especially now returned to the surface which has seen him register his two career successes.
To me he looks to have been plotted up by his handler to land a punt, and everything now seems in his favour to get the job done.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Royal Peculiar (6/1 bet365 – BOG)
