Fame And Glory has been very disappointing in his last two starts but is a class act on his day and looks value at 7/2 to bounce back and land the opening race today at 1.50.
Aidan O’Brien’s colt is a multiple Group 1 winner who looked a stayer who had the world at his feet when running away with the Ascot Gold Cup back in June.
He seemed to relish the step up in trip to 2m 4f that day, travelling strongly and showing a tremendous turn of foot to slam Opinion Poll by 3 lengths.
It’s therefore surprising that connections decided to drop him back in trip to 1m 6f for his next two starts when surprisingly tuned over by Fictional Account at the Curragh and then running too bad to be true when beaten 23 lengths into fourth behind Duncan in the Irish St Leger at the same venue.
There is no doubt in my mind that he is far better than those two efforts, and I expect to see him in his true light now stepped back up in trip to 2 miles this afternoon.
If anywhere near back to his best he has nothing to fear from Opinion Poll on their Gold Cup running, and he would be odds-on for this if it wasn’t for his last two runs.
His handler has proved time and time again that he is superb at priming horses for the big day, and I am confident that Fame And Glory will be spot on for this.
In my book there is no way Opinion Poll should be favourite and ahead of him in the betting, and that makes the 7/2 on offer look tremendous value.
