8/1 Parish worth a punt at Ponte

Parish has shown enough to suggest he is worth siding with at 8/1 on handicap debut in the 4.40 at Pontefract today.

Roger Varian’s charge wasn’t at his best last time out but had previously caught the eye whne sixth of 13 to Gossiping in a 1m maiden at Windsor.

The three-year-old raced in mid-division before keeping under tender handling to be beaten 7 3/4 lengths in a race which ahs worked out well.

The runner-up Mister Brightside has won since and is officially rated 82 and the third home Pyjama Party absolutely bolted up in a maiden at Thirsk last night off a rating of 80.

Sunday Royal, who finished fifth, has also gone on to run a couple of solid races – including when thrid in a handicap at Haydock off 75.

I makes Parish’s opening mark of 67 look potentially on the lenient side, especially if the fitting of the cheekpieces for the first time have the desired effect, and he remains unexposed after just four starts.

The stable are also in good form at present, and with Graham Lee – who has just under a 28% strike rate when teaming up with the yard in the past 12 months – now partnering Parish for the first time everything points to a big run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Parish (8/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
