Right Step has slipped back down the weights to an exploitable mark and with Jamie Spencer in the saddle looks the best bet of the day at 8/1 in the 3.35 at Epsom.
The gelding was in cracking form earlier in the year, finishing runner-up in strong handicaps at York and over today’s course and distance.
Those runs came off 94 and 97 respectively, and he then went on to finish a fine fourth of 14 to Beachfire in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot off 100.
Alan Jarvis’ charge has put in two disappointing efforts since then, but the handicapper has now cut him some slack and he is back down to 94 – a mark from which he can be very competitive.
The fact that he has course form in the book is a major plus, as is the booking of Spencer who looks the ideal partner to deliver him late on the scene from off the pace.
I had him priced up at around 11/2 for this on my tissue, so at 8/1 with Stan James he looks cracking value.
To me he must go off shorter, and that price should be snapped up while it lasts.
