Marmalad scored in good style last time out and looks worth siding with at 9/2 to defy a 6lb rise in the weights and follow-up in the 1.00 at Lingfield today.

Tom Dascombe’s charge did us a favour when showing plenty of pace to chase the leaders before running on strongly to comfortably beat Cascading Stars by 1 3/4 lengths over course and distance 14 days ago and now meets the runner-up on 1lb better terms.

Prior to that he had also ran very well on the Tapeta surface to finish runner-up on handicap debut behind Romance Story and he looks the type who could have more to offer on synthetic surfaces.

Marmalad does now have to race off a career-high mark of 77, but that should not be beyound him based on his debut run wat Haydock when a not knocked about fourth of 9 to Winslow in a race which has thrown-up subsequent winners – including runner-up Baitha Alga who scored at Chester before winning the listed Woodcote Stakes at Epsom and the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The son of Duke Of Marmalade also now seems to be strengthening up and improving with every run, and another plus is that his trainer has a near 20% strike rate with his runners at the track in the past 12 months.

The booking of Jim Crowley to do the steering is another positive and everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Marmalad (9/2 bet365, BetVictor, William Hill – BOG)
