9/1 Spirit makes plenty of appeal
Spirit Of Sharjah has a good record fresh and makes plenty of appeal now returned to the all-weather surface in the 6.35 at Kempton this evening.
Julia Fielden’s gelding has not been at his best in recent starts on the turf but won four times over 7f in 2010, with his last win coming over 7f in a listed contest at this track.
He showed a good turn of foot that day to beat Mosqueras Romance by a length after being held-up as usual off the pace, and the form looks strong in the context of this race.
The six-year-old, who is officially the highest rated in the line-up on 105, also goes well for Jimmy Quinn and has a draw in stall 9 from where he should be able to drop in behind the pace and hopefully be delivered late.
Other pluses are that he is at his best on the artificial surface and has run well after a lay-off.
Everything looks in place for him to run a huge race, and at 9/1 he looks solid each-way value.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Sprit of Sharjah (9/1 bet365, Boylesports)
Avertis too big at 10s
Avertis has slipped back down to a mark he can exploit and looks overpriced at 10/1 in the 7.05 at Kempton.
The six-year-old was last suuccessful in 7f Epsom handicap last year for Stef Higgins off tonghit’s mark of 73, and shaped as if coming back to his best when fourth over a mile at Leicester for his new yard last time out.
Now in the care of Alistair Lidderdale, the gelding travelled strongly at the head of affairs that day before weakening inside the last to be beaten 4 3/4 lengths by Uppercut.
The way he travelled suggested that a drop back in trip to the 7f he tackles this evening would be ideal, and if building on that effort there is little doubt that he has the ability to take this now that he is down to his last winning mark.
Another plus is that he has course and distance winning form to his name, and in a race where he should get the strong pace he needs to be seen at his best he looks to have plenty in his favour.
He is certainly no 10/1 shot in my eyes, and at those odds rates a great each-way play.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Avertis (10/1 generally available – BOG)
