9/1 Reindeer can sleigh bookies

Reindeer Dippin is back down to a handy mark, and having shaped as if coming back to his best last time out makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the 12.35 at Aintree today.

Donald McCain’s gelding was a much proved performer over hurdles/fences last season, winning twice in testing conditions.

His win over fences came off today’s mark of 132, and with his last win over hurdles coming off just 6lb lower.

The nine-year-old has been dropped 3lb since an eye-catching performance when 10th of 20 to Dynaste in a hot 3m handicap hurdle at Haydock last month and if building on that effort looks well treated enough to play a leading role in this.

He travelled well for much of the race at the Merseyside track until stamina took it’s toll and the drop back to 2m 4f today should see him in far better light.

His two wins last season both came on heavy ground, so the persistent rain which has ensured that today’s contest will turn into a slog is a major plus.

With his stable continuing to be in flying form everything looks in place for a huge run, and at 9/1 he rates a solid each-way play.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Reindeer Dippin (9/1 Ladbrokes – BOG, Coral)

14/1 West ready to Rock

West End Rocker looked a staying chaser to keep on the right side last season and looks good each-way value at 14/1 in the Becher Chase at Aintree this afternoon (2.10)

Alan King’s charge showed that stamina was his forte when landing a brace of handicaps at Newbury and Warwick, and is now only 4lb higher than his win at the latter on heavy going.

He was Unfortunate when brought down at Bechers in the Grand National on his final start, and although he was very disappointing on his comeback run at Cheltenham last month some of the stable’s runners have badly needed their first outing and improved significantly on their next start.

The nine-year-old has also reportedly been trained with this race specifically in mind, and with the King stable now flying it would be no surprise to see him bounce back.

He certainly remains a horse with plenty of potential, and his proven ability in testing ground is a big plus as this will turn into a right slog.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way West End Rocker (14/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
