Aintree Saturday Tips: Ballyoptic a 50/1 each-way play in Grand National

Of those at massive odds in the Grand National (5.15), Ballypotic looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and appeals each-way at 50/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes who are paying six places.

This Nigel Twiston-Davies trained nine-year-old was a Grade 1 winning hurdler, rated 162 at his peak, and has won two of his nine starts over fences.

He slammed Elegant Escape by 13 lengths on chasing debut at Exeter and the runner-up –  whom he met on level weights – has won four times since, finished third in two Grade 1s, and impressed when winning the Welsh Grand National.

Ballyoptic also showed a good attitude to beat Vintage Clouds by 2 3/4 lengths in a Grade 2 contest at Wetherby, and was far from disgraced when fourth to Presenting Percy in the Grade 1 RSA at the Cheltenham Festival.

He went on to round off the campaign with fine short-head second of 29 to Joe Farrell on handicap debut on the Scottish Grand National at Ayr off an opening mark of 148,  where after being held-up travelling well he  made smooth progress to get in a challenging position three from home before staying on powerfully after the last to be gaining all the way to the line.

It was a terrific run by a novice and Ballyoptic comes into this having had just three starts this season.

He was in the process of running a huge race in the first of those in the Becher chase here over the National fences when coming to grief eight from home when travelling strongly and creeping into contention.

Off his current rating of 152 he looks weighted to run a big race granted a clear round and thus features as the each-way punt and completes these 2019 Grand National betting tips.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Ballyoptic (50/1 Coral, Ladbrokes – BOG, paying six places)
