Amethyst a real gem at Musselburgh

Amethyst Dawn has plummeted in the weights and is of major interest at 7/1 in the 5.30 at Musselburgh.

The mare is a rare runner at the track for Andrew Reid, and is now 14lb lower than when last successful.

That win came at Thirsk last June when she was in the care of Tim Easterby where she made all and battled on gamely to beat She’s a Character by 1 1/2 lengths off a mark of 84.

The six-year-old has been out of form since then, but is now down to a mark of just 70 and shaped as if she could be ready to cash in on her reduced mark with a much improved effort last time out.

She finished 4th of 13 to Strathnaver over a mile at Lingfield, weakening inside the last to be beaten 5 3/4 lengths after showing plenty of her old dash to chase the leaders.

The drop back to 7f today will suit her far better, as she has won four of her 15 starts at the trip.

Any easing in the ground will also not convenience her as she has winning form on heavy (off a mark of 82), and the booking of Graham Lee also catches the eye.

I think that she has plenty in her favour in a race that lacks any real strength in depth, and at 9/1 she rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 5pts win Amethyst Dawn (7/1 bet365 – BOG)
