Andhaar is on a potentially lenient mark in the 5.15 at Southwell and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 12/1.

Richard Philip’s charge has not been at his best so far in three starts this year, but his handicap mark has fallen as a result and he is now dropped in class.

The gelding has not scored since landing back-to-back novice hurdles in 2010, but he ran some really solid races last year off higher marks than today’s 120.

He got beat just a short-head over course and distance by Sansili in a class 3 handicap off 125 and followed up that effort with a  solid third of 6 to Decoy in a similar grade affair at Worcester off 130.

The seven-year-old then finished third of 8 to Ogee in another class 3 contest at the same venue off 130, after which he was on the sidelines for 209 days.

He has since run three times in a class 2 and three company, and it could well be that he has taken time to work his way back to fitness.

If that’s the case then this class 4 contest looks the best opportunity he has had for some time, and he certainly looks well-weighted on the pick of his form last year.

He booking of Jason Maguire also catches the eye, and at the odds on offer he looks overpriced if bouncing back to anywhere near his best.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Andhaar (12/1 Bolyesports – BOG)
