Angels Will Fall drops into handicap company for the first time in the 1.55 at York and looks worth an each-way wager at 22/1.
The daughter of Acclamation was a very smart juvenile, and although she only managed to score once last season when winning a listed contest at Ayr (off an official rating of 106) she ran some solid races in defeat.
She was beaten just 1 1/2 lengths when third of 5 to Markab in a listed affair at Windsor where she had the likes of Genki and Medician Man behind and went on to run a stormer in the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood when fifth of 17 to the flying Aussie mare Ortensia.
Charlie Hills’ charge travelled strongly off the pace that day and made good headway to lead her group at the furlong marker before keeping on at the one pace to be beaten just 2 1/4 lengths.
She finished just a length behind the runner-up Spirit Quartz, who is a really useful sort who has performed well at the highest level and this season won a Group 2 at Chantilly in good style.
That is strong form in the contest of this contest, and although the selection hasn’t been at her best in five starts this season four of those runs came in group company and she didn’t run too badly on her penultimate start when fourth of 8 to Artistic Jewel in a listed contest at Haydock where she travelled strongly into the race before being unable to find inside the last to be beaten 2 1/2 lengths.
The winner has since gone on to follow-up in good style in a listed contest at Pontefract, and Angels Will Fall now gets into this handicap off a mark of 98.
That gives here a big chance at the weights on the pick of her form, and on a line through Ortensia and Artistic Jewel she is very closely matched with the second favoruite for this Bogart yet can be backed at more than double the odds of that rival.
There is no doubt that she is not the most straightforward and needs things to drop right for her, but she is also talented on her day and would have a major in this if the drop in grade does the trick.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Angels Will Fall (22/1 Stan James – BOG)
