Annies Fortune has sone solid form to her name and looks overpriced at 9/1 in the 3.15 at York today.
Alan Jarvis’s filly shaped with plenty of promise in her first three starts as a juvenile before opening her account in good style at Goodwood where she won going away from Botanica by 1 14 lengths.
She was the upped in class for her next start in a Group 3 contest at the same track and ran a cracker to be finish a 1 3/4 length fourth of 8 to Ollie Olga after being headed inside the last and being unable to find any extra close home.
The runner-up in that contest, Sky Lantern, was only just over a length in front of her and has subsequently gone on to land this year’s 1000 Guineas.
The selection than backed up that effort with another solid run in a Group 3 at Newmarket where she stayed on to finish a never nearer third of 9 to Waterway Run.
The daughter of Montjeu was then off the track for 216 days before her final start as a two-year-old in the Group 2 Rockfel at Newmarket where she showed plenty of early dash and held every chance two from home before weakening out of contention to finish 10th of 11 to Just The Judge.
The form of those races is pretty strong in the context of this listed 1 mile contest and to me sets the standard.
Her trainer also had a welcome winner at the track with Navajo Chief yesterday, and boats a healthy 21% strike rate with his runners at the Knavesmire.
To me she has a far better chance than her price indicates, and with Michael J Murphy in the saddle makes plenty of each-way appeal.
