Another Try has slipped to a dangerous mark and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 20/1 in the 4.10 at Brighton today.
Alan Jarvis’ gelding won two handicaps last season, including over 6f at Haydock where he landed a gamble off a mark of 78.
He was slowly into stride that day but travelled up strongly and after leading inside the final furlong ran on strongly to score by 1 1/2 lengths from Cruise Tothelimit who he now meets in this on 6lb better terms.
The eight-year-old then ran well in his next two races off a mark of 83 when fourth of 16 to Amadeus Wolfe Tone at Doncaster and 5th of 16 to Choral at Salisbury and wasn’t discredited on his final start of 2012 when 6th of 10 to Mudiq on the all-weather at Lingfield.
It’s fair to say that he wasn’t been at his best in his first four starts this season, but he put in a much better effort last time out over 7f at Epsom when fourth of 8 to Magic City and has since been dropped another 2lb to a mark of 73.
That means that he is now 5lb below his last winning mark and gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective if he can build on that effort.
The drop back to 6f today will certainly be in his favour, and with Michael J Murphy in the saddle taking another 5lb off his back he is too well treated to ignore.
He certainly shouldn’t be available to back at three times the odds of Cruise Tothelimit based on their Haydock meeting last year, and at 20/1 looks overpriced and worth an each-way wager.
