Arsenal v West Brom – early goal on the cards

Arsenal are a top priced 4/9 to continue their good run of form and beat West Brom at the Emirates today (3pm KO) but I have come up with a bet which looks far tastier than backing them at odds-on in a match which looks theirs for the taking.

The Gunners are now unbeaten in last six matches in all competitions and come into this following an unbelievable 5-3 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

That win made it three wins on the bounce in the Premiership and took them into seventh place in the table – just three points off a top four position.

Robin van Persie made it 28 goals in his last 27 league games with a brilliant hat-trick against Chelsea, and the Baggies defence is going to find it very hard to stop him not getting on the score  sheet yet again.

He looks value at 100/30 to bag the opener, but the punt which really interests me is in the betting for the time of the first goal.

There have been four goals scored in the opening 10 minutes of the last four league meetings between Arsenal and West Brom, and the Baggies have scored more goals in the opening 15 minutes (five) than any other Premier League team this term.

Paddy Power go 10/11 that a goal is score in the first 22 minutes, and the stat suggests that’s a terrific bet.

However they also go 3/1 about a goal in the first 10 minutes while bet365 offer 7/2 about the opener coming between 11 and 20 minutes.

Therefore if you are prepared to sacrifice a couple of minutes you could back both offers with split stakes you will get a better return on your investment.

If the first one goes in you get even money, while the latter will pay 11/10 – better than the 10/11 for a goal in the first 22 minutes.
