Leading jockey Richard Johnson – who has a 24% strike rate at the course in the last five seasons – has been booked by trainer Philip Hobbs to ride for the fourth time.
Second last time out over this distance at Warwick, that was his best run to date and he runs off the same mark here again following a 25 day break. His jumping was solid that day and he showed plenty of heart but was just run out of it by an in form horse, with the two pulling well clear of the rest of the field.
The main danger comes from favourite Kapgarde King, who won at Huntingdon last time out, but he didn’t beat much in a weaker race last time out and will find this race tougher. The two look well clear of the field in terms of form, with third favourite Knight of the Realm having fallen the last twice and likely to prove an exciting ride for amateur Sean Houlihan.
The ground provides the main question mark over our tip, but he performed well enough on debut on Good ground and there is enough in the pedigree to suggest he can cope with the going.
