Baritone looks on a handy mark at present and is strongly fancied at 7/2 to land the spoils in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket today (4.10).

Sir Michale Stoute’s three-year-old opened his account with a facile eight length success in a three-runner maiden Pontefract last time month having previously posted some solid efforts in defeat.

They included on seasonal reappearance when a 1 3/4 length runner-up to stable companion Mekong at Leicester. The winner has gone on to develop into a smart sort who has won twice since and finished a 1/2 length runner-up in a hot handicap at Ascot off a rating of 102 when last seen in action.

Baritone also ran well on handciap debut when a two lengrth third to the now 105-rated Elwazir at Ascot and backed that up with a decent third of 11 to Desert Path at Goodwood.

He now reverts to handicap companmy off a rating of 86 and looks very exploitable, especially on his run behind Mekong. He also appeared to relish the step up to the1m 4f trip of this whenscoring last time out and looks the type who should have plenty more to offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Baritone (7/2 bet365, Betfair, Paddy Power, Sky Bet – BOG)
