The improving Barracuda Boy looks cracking value at 22/1 in the opener at York today (2.00).
Tom Dascombe’s juvenile came good at the fourth time of asking when gamely landing a nursery at Bath, and then easily defied a 3lb rise when cosily scoring at Haydock last time out.
He was the stand-out paddock pick at Haydock, and had little difficulty in beating the well-regarded The Taj by 1 1/4 lengths.
After going right at the start he was produced to take the lead two from home by Silvestre De Sousa and only had to be given a tap to go about his business and put the race to bed.
To me he scored with far more in hand than the winning margin suggests, and although this is a step up in class he looks to be on a serious upward curve and capable of landing the hat-trick.
The form of the race looks strong to me, and the son of Bahamian Bounty has a good attitude and is getting more professional with each run.
His handler has also been in good form of late, and to me there is no way that he should be as big as 22s for this.
I had him priced up at around half those odds, and he looks superb each-way value in a wide open contest.
