Ben Vrackie looks on a potentially handy mark in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster today (3.00) and worth a bet at 5/1.

John Gosden trained three-year-old shaped with stacks of promise ion his second start when runner-up at Newcastle in a race that has thrown up a host of subsequent winners. He then went one better at the same venue when effotelessly slamming Astromachia, who has won since, by 16 lengths wihout barely having to break sweat.

Ben Vrackie was then pitched into Group c3 ompany last time out and ran very well to finish 1 1/4 length runner-up to Maid Up in the March Stakes at Goodwood.

He was attempting to give 3lb to the 105-rated winner who had perviously been beaten just a short head in a Group 2 and has now won four of her five starts. She has been since been supple, mented by connections to run in the St Leger here tomorrow.

In the circumstances it was a cracking effort from Ben Vrackie and it makes an opening handicap mark of 104 look exploitable, especially aas after just four starts he remains open to stacks more progress.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Ben Vrackie (5/1 bet365, Betfair – BOG)
