Benbatl a bet at 33/1 in Investec Derby

Benbatl looks overpriced at 33/1 and worth an each-way wager in a wide-open renewal of the Investec Derby at Epsom today (4.30).

Saeed Bin Suroor’s colt created a huge impression when making a winning debut in a 7f maiden at Doncaster, storming clear to win easily by 7 lengths.

He then ran a blinder in the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket when third to Eminent in a race where nothing went right.

Benbatl saw far too much daylight early doors and raced freely, and it was to his credit that he stayed on well to be nearest at the finish and beaten 2l engths without being unduly punsished.

He has since run a blinder to finish runner-up to Permian in the Group 2 Dante Stakes over 1m 2f at York where he travelled as well as anything before keeping on to be beaten just 3/4 of a length.

Judged on that effort the step up to 1m 4f in this shlould suit and Benbatl is clearly progressing with each outing.

He also nwo gets fitted with the hood and tongue tie for the first time and has would nothave to find much improvement to tunr the tables on Eminent or Permian.

Given that they are priced up at around 15/2 and 11/1 respectively it makes the 33/1 on offer for Benbatl look far too big.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Benbatl (33/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4)
