Berkshire Royal at bet at 7s under Watson

Berkshire Royal has some solid form in the book and looks worth a wager at 7/1 in the 3.55 at Asscot today.

Andrew Balding’s three-year-old has been in fine form thos season, winning three of his seven starts and finishing runner-up on the four other occasions.

In the last of those successes he stayed on strongly to get up close home and score by a neck at Chester. Berkshire Royal got put up 4lb for that but ran a blinder off his revised rating of 82 when a 2 length runner-up to Cross Counter over this course and distance.

That form looks strong as Cross Counter went on to land the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood by 4 1/2 lengths in a course record time and then went down by just a head to Old Persian in a Group 2 at York. The third home Elegiac also scored next time up, as did Gossip Column who finished a well beaten fourth and the sixth home Desert Path.

Berkshire Royal has since run well to finish runner-up at Chester and althoigh now 3lb higher in the weights than when beaten by Cross Master that is offset by the 3lb claim of crack apprentice Jason Watson. the services of the in-form Jason watson in the saddle who is terrific value for his 3lb claim.

So taking everything into account, he still figures on a workable mark and looks to have plenty going for him in this.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Berkshire Royal (7/1 bet365 – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,4)
