Ricky Burns and promoter Frank Warren are in a desperate search for a new opponent after Jose Ocampo withdrew from Saturday’s world title fight – the second time a challenger has been lost.
Filipino Ocampo pulled out on Monday having taken the fight at short notice after an injury suffered in a car crash to Liam Walsh also ruled him out.
The reasons for Ocampo’s withdrawal are not yet clear, but Warren Promotions insist WBO lightweight champion Burns, who hopes for a unification fight with America’s Adrien Broner in 2013, will continue to top Saturday’s bill at The ExCel in London.
A spokesman for Warren said: “We are aware that Ocampo pulled out overnight.
“Ricky Burns, though, will still fight as planned in London on Saturday night.
“We hope to make an announcement in due course as to who his opponent will be.”
