Butler out points Sexton on BoxACADEMY

Last night London’s York Hall was the venue for the second installment of BoxACADEMY Queensberry Promotions new concept in featuring new, up and coming talent.

First up on the bill we saw Middleweight Tom Baker who recently featured in DAILY SPORT up against Dan Blackwell in a 4 rounder Baker got off to a good start in the first and by the end of the round both guys were bleeding from the nose and by the 3rd Blackwell looked tired and bloody but the tough Trowbridge man stuck it our to the end and lost on points 40-36.

Next up was another recent interviewee of our’s Super-Flyweight Charlie Hoy in his 2nd pro contest against Bulgarian Galin Paunov over 4 rounds Hoy got off to a great start catching the Bulgarian with some great shots winning the first 2 comfortably and then dropped Paunov in the 3rd to go on a win on points 40-35.

Top of the bill was a 10 round Super-Fly contest between Chestunt’s Ashley Sexton and Ellesmere Port’s Paul Butler and the fight was a good all out scrap with Butler doing the better work. Although I saw the fight closer than ref Rob Williams who gave the fight to Butler 98-92 with Sexton slipping in the 10th which got counted as a knockdown. Sexton came in over weight for this one which clearly showed in his performance on the night. this fight was winner of fight of the night and each fighter got a £1,000 bonus courtesy of the sponsor Rainham Steel.

A cracking prospect Islington Super-Feather Joey Taylor got his pro career off to a great start with a 1st round KO of Michael Stupart. Taylor had Stupart down and ref Ken Curtis had seen enough calling time at 1.42 of the opener. Taylor sold plenty of tickets and bought a load of support with him.

Results in brief – Forest Hill Super-Middle Darryll Williams beat Hull’s Tony Shields over 4 rounds 39-35, Dublin Super-Feather Stephen Ormond beat Mickey Coveney from Swindon 100-92 over 10 rounds and Harrow Weald Super-Feather Mitchell Smith beat Dan Carr of Trowbridge over 4 rounds 40-36.

Daily Sport Says – All in all a good nights boxing with for me Joey Taylor looking a cracking prospect in matched right on the way up.
