Saturday night saw Hellrasier Promotions back at the Camden Centre for another packed out card of boxing featuring local fighters in some good old fashioned tear ups.
Fight of the night has to be a corker of a 4 rounder at middleweight between Joe McDonald and James Child which turned into a toe to toe war with Child getting dropped in the first and second rounds with big shots, only to get up and battle it out to the death losing on points 40-35.
Super-flyweight Charlie Hoy scored his first pro stoppage by dropping Hyusein Hyuseinov twice in the first round of their scheduled 6 rounder with only the bell saving him at the end of the round, buoyed by this Hoy stepped on the gas from the off in the second and dropped Hyuseinov again with body shots at the start of the round, and the ref called a halt at 0.22 of the second. Great win by the lad from Cheshunt who looks a promising prospect as long as he can stay active and build on his first 5 pro victories.
Top of the bill saw Wayne Alwan-Arab narrowly retain his International Masters light-middleweight title on points over 10 rounds 95-94 against tough Georgian Ambrosi Sutidze. The fight was quite a battle with the Sutidze dropping Alwan-Arab in the third with a big right hand and rocking him again in the eighth. I had it very close and in my opinion it could have gone either way on points. I’m sure Alwan-Arab will be hoping for an easier defence next time out.
Super-middleweight Joe Duffy won it 3rd outing as a pro on points 39-38 over 4 rounds against an awkward opponent in Gilson De Jesus.
Welterweight Vinz Kuech made his pro debut fighting South African born but London based journeyman Bheki Moyo over 4 rounds 39-37. Moyo proved a tricky opponent for the novice and although he hasn’t won a fight me made Kuech work throughout and never looked like getting stopped.
Mitcham middleweight Warren Fenn got back to winning ways after a shock stoppage loss last time out at the Camden Centre by beating Bognor Regis’ Liam Griffiths over 4 rounds 40-36, Fenn who had a good deal of support in the venue will now be looking to capitalize on his win which takes his pro career to 4-1.
Local light-welter Charlie Rice took his pro career to 6-0 after beating Manchester’s Paul Haines on points 59-55 over 6 rounds.
Welter Phil Gill had a tough 4 rounder with Jonny Greaves winning 40-36 on points but sustaining a cut in the process to the left eye. Gill did well against an awkward opponent in Greaves who just kept coming forward.
Popular ligh-welter Ben Day made it 5-0 in the pro ranks with a points win over Marc Callaghan 39-37 over 4 rounds. Day boxed well against the seasoned journeyman, much to the delight of the Day fan club.
Light-heavy Joe Smyth made a return to the ring after nearly a year out beating Romanian Mihai Macovei over 6 rounds 60-54. Smyth who was in control thoughout never looked like stopping the Romanian slugger who just kept coming forward.
And Carshalton welter Lee Owen beat Gareth Piper 40-37 over 4 rounds. Owen got caught with a few shots in there and needs to tighten up the defence as he moves up in calibre of opposition if he’s to keep the wins coming. Plus lightweight Craig Whyatt made it 4-0 beating Jonathan Fry on points 39-38 in a close but hard fought contest, Fry tested Whyatt and even cut the Morden youngster over the left eye in the 3rd round.
This was another goods nights boxing on a stacked card and Daily Sport were once again glad to be part of this well attended show from Mickey Helliet.
