Can Brave Prospector Beat The Bookies at Goodwood

14/1 Brave Prospector ready to strike gold

Brave Prospector has dropped to a winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 20/1 in the 3.50 at Goodwood.

Now with Richard Fahey, the former Jane Chapple-Hyam inmate is a classy sort on his day and is now 5lb lower than his last win.

That came over 6f on the all-weather at Wolverhampton, but he has even better form on the turf which includes some good efforts in listed and Group company last season.

He finished a fine fifth to Bewitched in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot (beaten just 2 1/2 lengths) and an excellent 2 1/4 length third to Jimmy Styles in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster.

Both those runs came off a mark of 104, so he is undoubtedly very well handicapped in this if coming back to his best.

The gelding looked as if he was ready to strike again when a highly encouraging seventh of 14 to stable companion Quest For Success in the Scottish Stewards Cup and although well beaten in the big one itself at Goodwood last time out I am inclined to forgive him that effort.

He has his optimum conditions this afternoon and is just the type to pop up at a big price.

The race should be run to suit as he is best when coming off a strong pace, and from a potentially good draw in stall 3 he looks tremendous each-way value at 20/1.

Recommended bet: 2pts each-way Brave Prospector (20/1 generally available – BOG firms)
