Carter gets stopped in 2 rounds

Last night at London’s York Hall rising heavyweight AJ Carter suffered his first loss as pro at the hands of hard hitting Ugandan Kenneth Odeke.  Odeke who was 4-1 with 4 KO’s and got KO’d himself in his only defeat so far started well and appeared to have shaken Carter at the end of the 1st. Then as the 2nd got underway Odeke landed some big shots and Carter was out cold at 0.36 of the round. A good win for Odeke who will now struggle to find any further UK opposition on this performance., meanwhile Carter will have to re-group and learn for last nights defeat.

Another upset on the Goodwin Sports car was light-welter Frankie Monkhouse getting stoped insdie 2 rounds by Ivans Levickis. Monkhouse got piped into the ring to great suppoirt from his travelling Socttish fans, but this support wasn’t enough to stop their man getting tagged and hitting the canvas in the opening seconds of the 2nd round. Monkhouse took a copunt and was clearly gone but ref Terry O’Connor let it continue and Monkhouse to far more punishment than he needed to. The offical time was a TKO stoppage at 1.36 of round 2.

Promising light-heavyweight Miles Shinkwin took on Mitch Mitchell over 6 rounds and performed well last night dropping Mitchell in the 2nd and twice more in the bout however these were deemed to be slips by the ref. Shinkwin seemed to be able to land lefts to the body of Mitchell at will and this proved to be his best work in the fight. The fight went to the scorecard and Shinkwin won 60-53.

Super-middle Leon McKenzie beat Danny Brown over 6 rounds on points 59-56. McKenzie was on top from the off and won the first 2 but just as Brown was coming back into the bout and for me had done enough to win the 3rd he got caugh and dropped.

Results: Philip Bowes took the International Master Silver belt over 10 rounds beating Francis Maina 99-92, Ben Hall beat Danny Shannon over 4 rounds 40-37 and Dimitri Nikulin beat Jan Balog stopping him at 1.05 of the 2nd round.
