Chase The Spud is on a handy mark at presenet and makes plenty of appeal at 25/1 in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter (3.35).
Fergal O’Brien’s nine-year-old was last successful in a graduation chase on heavy ground at Exeter 13 months ago when beating Fingal Bay by seven lengths off an official rating of 130.
Chase The Spud went on to finish a decent third in a handicap at Chepstow off 134 and ran really well on his second start this season when a 3 1/2 length runner-up Mysteree in a competitive 12-runner contest at Haydock off 130.
He now meets the winner on 12lb better terms and off an unchanged mark looks weighted to run a big race.
The marathon 4m 1f trip should also play to his strengths and at the odds on offer, especially compared to Mysteree, he looks overpriced and well worth an each-way wager.
